And we unlocked some really fun stretch goals in the mix!

This campaign was by far one of the most overwhelmingly community-oriented endeavors I’ve ever experienced. It was also a case study in Murphy’s law. If you missed my overview of all the wild coincidences that made this one a rollercoaster, here’s the rundown of the biggest ones:

• my mom was hospitalized the night before launch

• our power went out ten MINUTES before launch, so I went live in a crowded coffee shop with frizzy hair and no sleep

• On my way to the last event, the road was blocked by a random fire, and we had to wait half-an-hour before making it to the venue

Through it all, God was so good. And even as I felt the emotional ups-and-downs of a Kickstarter campaign, God used the people around me to remind me why I wrote this story. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t for the numbers.

I wrote All for Mage and Melody to tell a story that would encourage my students and readers like them to look at the world around them with a curious eye. To ask, “Is there something more beyond what I’m experiencing in this immediate moment?”

In doing that, I hope Tali and Melody’s wacky little theater-kids-turned-chosen-ones story will lead people to seek the Savior whose story is so much greater than any I could ever tell.
