May Writing Update

And Kickstarter Update...and life update...

Better late than never?

This picture brings me so much happiness. Also, paperbacks are reaching backers!

May passed in a whirlwind of end-of-school triumphs and failures, Kickstarter demands, and no real time to rest. I’ve gone to the doctor more in the past week than I have all year—not because I’ve been sick, really, but because I’m horrible at taking time off during the school year for check-ups, wisdom teeth, and so forth.

Resting, caring for myself, and making time for friends and family are all aspects of my life where I tend to fall short. That’s been on display pretty heavily this past week, and I’m hoping to see that change. Last night, I took time I could have spent writing this newsletter to finish a book I really enjoyed (Moonbound by Robin Sloan), and I plan to spend more time reading, napping, and hanging out with friends later today.

HOWEVER! There must be balance because Kickstarter books are IN! Well, paperbacks at least. If you’re a paperback backer, there’s a good chance you’ve received your copy of All for Mage and Melody already! If you’ve read it (which I know at least three people have and yes that did in fact make me smile like a crazy person), would you mind leaving a review on Goodreads? That would mean the world to me!

Hardcovers and special editions are on their way, but it’ll likely be a couple more weeks because shipping and international customs are some of those pesky things I can’t control.

Speaking of things I can’t control: although All for Mage and Melody has largely been well-received so far, the thought of this book being out in the world is TERRIFYING. After my last Kickstarter, It Would Have Been A Great Story released quietly (as second books tend to do) and never really gained the traction And Maybe They Fall in Love has found. I’m so scared that Tali and Melody’s story will fall through the cracks when everything’s said and done, but, at the end of the day, all I can do is advocate for the book and continue to write good stories.

Sharing my stories with the world means, to an extent, going out into the world. To that end, I’m eternally grateful to my friend Rayleigh for pushing me to go to book events this year. Without her, I never would have mustered up the courage—and now we have three on the calendar! Here’s the information for our upcoming event in Fate, Texas:

Yes, this is a screencap from Instagram. Yes, I could have asked Rayleigh for the graphic. But then I would have stalled out, never written this newsletter, and you would have never known I’m attending a bookish event with tattoos and coffee and mocktails (and maybe cocktails? not sure) June 29 4-8 PM.

The Stats…

I stole this format from Addison Horner. His newsletter Avocado Bites provides short, pithy grammar advice for writers, and I’d highly recommend checking it out!

Quotes To Enjoy

He knew [redacted] meant to push him away. Instead, Rafi set his jaw. “Are you sorry?”

[redacted] scoffed, then nodded. “As if that does any good. I am sorry, child. For all of it.”

Rafi nodded once, then jumped off the bed. “That’s all I need. I don’t know about the others. But if you decide you want to start over…well, you can start with me.”

BOOK 4 QUOTE

I'm awarding you with the "author who makes me scream the most" award 🏆 a distinct honor
